We selected ten idols we think show the best their support.

1. BTS’ Jin & JiMin

Jin truly loves animals and even wrote a song, ‘Tonight’ dedicated to the pets that he has lost. On his birthday, he usually donates food, bowls, and blankets to the Korean Animal Welfare Association and to the Korean Animal Rights Defenders. Once, he donated 321kg of food! JiMin also possesses a big heart, and donated cat food to the Gwanak Street Cat Association in Seoul.

2. SISTAR’s HyoLyn

After an episode of “TV Animal Farm” was realized almost a decade ago, showing off a pet baby farm, HyoLyn urged people to adopt a pet instead of buying them. Indeed, there were about 3,000 puppy mills in South Korea at that time, even though animals are to be put down when they become stray pets and are not claimed for ten to twenty days. She is also a frequent visitor to the stray dog center for voluntary work, but she kept this part of her life hidden for a couple of years until she decided to let her voluntary activities be made public in 2015 to raise awareness. She showed her daily life and voluntary work on the show “I Live Alone” to do so.

3. BLACKPINK’s Rosé

She adopted a stray dog called Hank in December 2020 and since then, it gained the heart of many fans. It possesses its own Instragam and it is known as a “celebrity dog” as it received gifts from luxury brands such as Yves Saint Laurent’s pet carrier, Louis Vuitton’s dog collar, and Tiffany & Co’s dog bowl. Knowing Rosé’s influence around the world, for sure she must have helped animal welfare with that adoption!

4. EXO’s SuHo

Nearly every member of the famous group EXO possesses animals, but SuHo has a special place. He has been tapped as honorary ambassador of the “7th Animal Film Festival in Suncheonman” in 2019. This festival showcased 71 films from 21 countries under the slogan of “Happy Animals” to embrace the peaceful coexistence of humankind and nature through a focus on endangered animals. On this occasion, SuHo declared “I am happy and delighted to be an honorary ambassador of this film festival that aims to find happiness with animals. As I have been living with my dog for a long time, I am interested in the welfare of animals and felt the need to consider the importance of nature and animals. I hope many people get to think about the preciousness of nature and animals through this event” - Korea Times

5. Stray Kids’ HyunJin

On Twitter, March 2022, the Korean Animal Welfare Association wrote an article for HyunJin’s birthday, claiming how good an influence he has on fans and thanking him for giving a better tomorrow to animals. He even received a certificate as you can see below. HyunJin also showed his close relationship with his dog Kkami in some vlogs on YouTube.

6. Lee HyoRi

As a member of the civic group Korean Animal Rights Advocates, she’s raising awareness for many years and was involved in a series of campaigns and held one in 2012, sponsored by CJ E&M to urge the adoption of stray dogs. The campaign went viral and helped animal welfare a lot. She also adopted a stray dog with one blind eye and created a blog, the proceeds from which went to animal rights advocacy groups, alongside the release of a song. Her dog, Soonshim, became a “celebrity dog” as it appeared in HyoRi’s published essay and in several magazine photoshoots with her.

7. Yoon JiSung

Former Wanna One member, JiSung adopted a rescue dog in February 2021 named Vero. He proudly declared on his Instagram that he has been studying dogs before Vero’s adoption, and they both appeared in April in Allure Korea, joining the benches of “celebrity dogs”.

8. Kang Daniel

Also a former Wanna One member, he rescued strays cats when he wasn’t even a trainee. When the show “Wanna One Go: Zero Base” was aired, Daniel brought his cats into the dormitory. He even gave an interview to Vogue Korea where he talked about them for a few minutes, showing his deep affection towards them.

9. HyunA & DAWN

The cute couple adopted a dog, Haenim, in December 2019. Their agency at the time, P Nation, declared “There is an animal shelter in Nowon-gu that the couple often went to, and they decided to adopt when the dog caught their eyes”. HyunA was already known for her love of animals, as she appeared in a campaign for the adoption of rescue dogs. She donated all the money she collected from that campaign to an animal protection organization, showing how big her heart is.

10. TXT

In 2020, the group hosted an event to win a signed CD. The condition? Donations to help abandoned animals! The event was on the website ODA, which reminded us that 130,000 abandoned animals were rescued in 2019 in Korea almost twice more compared to 2014. For people donating, they received a certificate of donation, one from TXT, and a photo taken at the shooting site of the event. In addition, 10 people received a signed CD, selected through a lottery system. Animal welfare is a really important issue that shouldn’t be neglected. Are you advocating like those idols?
