Starring Lee JoonGi (as Kim Hui Wu), Kim JiEun (as Kim HuiAh), and Lee KyungYoung (as Jo TaeSeop), it tells the story of a prosecutor who gets a second chance at life to take down an evil politician.“Again My Life” is based on a web novel of the same name written by Lee HaeNal. You can read the webtoon in Korean here.Although the webtoon and K-Drama are not exactly the same, none of the differences drastically change the story. However, you might find some of the differences interesting. So, here is a randomly ordered list of 5 differences between the “Again My Life” K-Drama and the webtoon.Warning: This article contains spoilers for episodes 1-6 of the webtoon and episodes 1-3 of the K-Drama for “Again My Life”.
1. The order of events
In the K-Drama, we got to see more of Kim HuiWu’s life as a prosecutor and the events that lead up to his death.Whereas, in the webtoon, the story immediately starts with him falling to his death.
2. The scene with the Grim Reaper
In the K-Drama, the Grim Reaper shows Kim HuiWu a scan flashback of his life where we get to see parts of his life story, including how he was bullied in school, his parents’ death, his journey in martial arts, etc. This gave us a good idea of why he is the person he is today. However, although the scene was the same for the most part. We don’t get to see that flashback sequence in the webtoon. We only know that he was out to get Jo TaeSeop. The other information is revealed slowly over the course of the story.
3. Where Kim HuiWu wakes up after coming back to life
In the K-Drama, Kim HuiWu realizes he has come back to life at his part-time job working behind the counter at a convenience store. In the webtoon, he realizes that he came back to life wearing a uniform and in school. He is being bothered by bullies in his classroom. As a result of the setting change, some scenes are the same in both storylines but just in different settings. One example is the fight scene where Kim HuiWu stands up to those who bullied him and gets hit in the back of the head with a bucket/large object.
4. His age and the year when he comes back to life/when his parents died
As mentioned in the last point, in the webtoon, he comes back to life in school (his 2nd year of high school) which means that’s when his parents died. It is also the year 1997 in the webtoon. In the K-Drama, he comes back to life after graduating high school and while he is attending an academy and preparing to enter college. It is the year 2007.It doesn’t seem that the years the webtoon and drama take place in have any correlation with each other, rather it seems like a choice made by the drama writers to make the story more modern and maybe determine the style of everything else in the drama e.g. cellphones that were used.
5. The reaction to his grades going up
While in the K-Drama everyone celebrated how Kim Hui Wu’s grades improved, that was not the case in the webtoon. In the webtoon, his homeroom teacher calls him to the staff room and tells him that if he was going to steal answers for the test, he should’ve at least done it modestly. He gets accused of stealing instead of having his hard work acknowledged. He even has to argue, making use of legal act references, to get out of the accusation. These are only a few of the differences that we’ve spotted.
